Audio Systems: Car Amp, inline fuse, speaker impedance

Question
I have a 94 ols cutlass and i have a jl 500/1 amp with a w6. I have everything connected properly and have done this before, but my inline fuse is causing me problems. When i connect it i get power to my amp and i then start my car. I will have power for a little bit then it will cut out. I can then unplug the power then plug it back into the fuse and sometimes it will turn back on then others it wont.I know that i have a good connection into the fuse and into my amp, and into my battery. This is really stressing me out since everything is new. What do you think is wrong?

Answer
First guess is you have either a shorted voice coil or the speaker impedance is too low; either of which will put a load on the amp that causes it to go into protection or overcurrent mode.  So, check that out.

Second guess is the inline fuse is too low.

Third guess is the car electrical system is either too low or too high.  Voltage is easy to check with a simple voltmeter (Home Depot or Walmart has them for under $10.00 which are perfect for car work).

Good Luck with it.
