Audio Systems: How to wire my subs, infinity subs, 4 ohms

Question
I had my two infinity subs with my infinity amp hooked up at two ohms in my bonneville and it was bumpin. I switched cars and had best buy hook them up for me and i think he wired my subs to 4 ohms because he didn't use all the wires like the last guy had to. I really would love an explanation of how to wire it to 2 ohms.

Answer
Nick,

I do not want to assume something here I do not know, and I did not read enough information in your question to give you a good answer.  I would need to know if the subs are dual VC and what is the impedance of each VC.  Then I would have to know how the subs (dual or single VC) were wired.    That is are the VC's (voice coils) in parallel or in series?  (I need to know for each sub).  Then I need to know if the subs would be in parallel or series.  If you don't understand parallel or series, series is where you run plus to minus on different VC's or subs and have one connection per sub to the amp.  Parallel means both plus and both minus wires are together and attached to the amp.  Model numbers tell me nothing, since I did not design the gear.

On top of all that, you also need to know the minimum load impedance your amp can drive (I presume 2 ohms) and also HOW MUCH CURRENT does your car supply?  It may be the tech hooked it up four ohms because the alternator on your new vehicle cannot supply the extra current the car amp needs to deliver full power at the 2 ohm load (which will be much greater).  You should return to Best Buy and ask to speak to a manager, and show him the unused leads.  Maybe he blows you off.  Maybe not.

Sorry, but without more information, I cannot answer you due to my lack of familiarity with your gear.
