Audio Systems: Dont know what to purchase, rca stereo, sony mp3

Question
I want to use my Sony MP3 for home audio with FM and speakers.
Not sure what to buy. Am I looking for a docking system?  Most say they are for iPod.  Is iPod different than MP3?

Answer
The output jack on an mp3 player must have an audio cable that will match into the input on a receiver.  Some mp3 players come with  a  cable that will plug directly into a mini input plug (which many of the newer audio equipment has) or rca stereo.  And, more and more, now days they are using usb connections.

So, all you have to do is obtain a home audio unit that can accommodate the interface between it and the output of the mp3 player.

If you give me the model number of the mp3 player I can look up the output connectivity and tell you exactly - - - - but you can do that too.  For example, many people just use a cable that plugs into the headphone output jack and connects to the input of the audio system (computer or home receiver or car audio, etc.).......

Does this help?  Let me know if you are still confused about it.
