Audio Systems: cd changer, disc pack, ml320

Question
I was a ml320 mercedes with 6 pack cd changer and the cd does not play. I have used the manual to troubleshoot. The message displays changer error is there any way to corret the problem without going to the dealer?

Answer
I would not take it to the dealer.  That is unless your dealer has an entertainment system specialist of staff.  As a general rule car dealers have little experience or know-how with the audio entertainment system.

If the vehicle is new and still under warranty the dealer may be able to send it off to the right party to have it looked at, but if you are over warranty I would not employ the dealer.  Rather, you would be better served by going to a local install/repair shop.  They have experience with these things and can troubleshoot the changer easily.

CD changers live in a very hostile environment of heat and vibration in a car and it is no wonder they have problems easily.  If the changer needs changing out for a replacement expect a cost of around $300 and up.  If you go to this site:

you can get an idea of what it may cost.  It may even be the disc pack that needs replaced.  There are too many possible causes to consider without knowing more.  You really need to have it looked at by a specialist.

So far as what you can try on your own I would suggest a reset.  Your manual may give you instructions on how to do that. But it can be done by lifting the power to the system for a few minutes - however, don't do it until you know if it has an anti-theft code and that you have the code and know how to use it.  If it is a Becker unit you can find lots of instructions on the Internet - just google around a little and you can find many sources of information.

If you need more, please give me the year and model information on the ML320 and the make and/or model of the installed audio system (Becker or others)......  Thanks.
