Audio Systems: bad amp, mustang lx, ford mustang

Question
hey man, i need to replace a stock amp in my 2000 mustang LX. do happen to know where that is?

Answer
It depends on the audio system that was put in the car when new.  During 2000 there were a few choices that Ford used.  If there is an external amp it would be mounted under the passenger seat.

But chances are the in-dash head unit has all the amplification built in.

But, to be sure you must know which factory system the car has.  Many of the 2000 have the MACH460 system which is highly touted by Ford but is a mediocre system in reality.  If it is the MACH system you will have to follow the wires coming out of the head unit to the external amp.

If there is not external amp, here is the standard wiring guide/color codes for your car:

Hope this helps.
