Audio Systems: computer to tv hookup, rca cable splitter, rca plug

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I have been trying to hook an HP laptop into an Akai LCT3201TD television. I have plugged the VGA output from the computer to the VGA input on the tv.  I have also plugged a headphone to RCA cable splitter from the headphone jack of the computer into the input RCA jacks on the tv.
I have been able to see the picture just fine, but I cannot get the audio to function.  I have plugged in the RCA wires into each of the different jacks on the tv and have gone through each of the "source" modes on the tv with no results.  I even plugged in my Blackberry to send music through the cables, but no result there either. There is an 1/8th inch headphone style jack next to the VGA input on the TV, but since I can't get ANY input sound to work, I'm leery about buying yet another cable only to find out that I have something configured wrong.
Any assistance you can offer would be much appreciated
Sincerely,
Scott

ANSWER: Actually, the 1/8" jack by the VGA input on the TV is where you'll run the PC audio to. Typically, whenever a TV has a VGA type input, the corresponding audio jack will be right next to it, as is the case with your TV.

When you have the VGA input selected, you will not get any audio from any of the other RCA inputs, as they are all dedicated to particular input channels.

QUESTION: Hello and thanks,
I figured that might be the case, but I did plug into the RCA jacks on the TV with sound from both the computer and my Blackberry and tried every input channel it had. (Component, S-Video, TV, VGA, and I think Aux) Even though I didn't mess with the video feed, I couldn't get any sound to come through the TV with any RCA plug at any input channel.  I even ran the TV source through some actual channels to make sure there wasn't one of those "Aux" channels.
I can't imagine all the sound inputs are fried so I was hoping perhaps it might be a setting somewhere on the tv.  Let me know if you can think of anything else I might try.
Thanks,
Scott

Answer
I'm not sure what you're asking...

You need to run from the computer's audio out into the 1/8" jack next to the VGA input.

I would suggest looking through the owner's manual for any specific setting you might be missing. You can find it online here: http://www.retrevo.com/search/v2/jsp/mytrevo/myTrevo.jsp?page=man

There are only 3 audio input on the back - VGA, Component, and the composite/S-video input.
You'll only get sound from one of these inputs at a time. If the TV is on VGA input, only the 1/8" jack will work. If the TV is on Component video input, only the Audio jacks next to the Component Video (RGB) jacks will work, and so on. It's unlikely that ALL if the audio inputs are fried. Are you positive that the cable is working properly?
