Audio Systems: audi q7 MMI upgrade, digital signal processor, audi q7

Question
Hi there! I owe an Audi Q7 2007 reg 3.0 tdi! I would like to make an upgrade to the MMI basic that the car has to an MMI high which means a new bigger colour screen into the dash, new 8 buttons fascia around gear knob etc etc! I have contacted KUFATEC in germany I have gave them the chassis number and they got back to me saying that in my car is a lot of work involved because there is a DSP low sound system which needs to be replaced if i want to do that upgrade! can you please explain to me if you know what is that DSP low sound system! the car has 8 speakers!!!
Thank you very much indeed!!
Best regards!

Answer
DSP is Digital Signal Processor - a form of computer processing chip.  A very powerful piece of computer electronics with a huge software code uniquely developed for the Audi model you are driving.

What they are saying is the DSP would have to be recoded by a software programmer and the upgrade equipment would need to be compatible with the interface digital I/O protocols in order to make it work.  It would be a major engineering task.  There may be some online experts who have done this and posted it somewhere if you can google for it and find it.

The other alternative is to remove the entire system and start over - which I would not recommend due to the integrated nature of the system design used in this car.

Do you have the B & O system like this one above?

But I would consult a knowledgeable installer before trying anything.
