Audio Systems: dont know where to go from here, conventional amplifier, ohm resistor

Question
i have every thing ready to put in 2 10 inch subs in to my 2001 gmc jimmy. except the rca out puts from the cd deck. i was going to splice the wires for my two rear speakers and make rca outputs. i wanted to do this right from the harness but my problem is i dont know what wires are what on the back of the deck. it is a delco stock deck and the model number is 15071662.so could you tell me what the colour code is for each wire and if there are any stupid little hidden amp in my truck(suv or whatever you would call a jimmy) that i should know about? i was thinking that i could go the actul speaker and splice it there but then i would only be running off one speaker, considering i dont have enough money to by another speaker wire to rca addapter and don't want to use my home made ones. ive herd that you only need mono for subs but the amp is a 2 channel so i want to utilize that

oh, and my cd deck has the button for a aux input is it fake or does it actuly have that feature if something was pluged in to the right spot. sorry for such a lenthy question thanks for reading:)

Answer
I believe this pdf file will help you identify the wires and the colors for the speaker feeds.

http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/GM/PDF/460001.pdf

It is for earlier years but I believe the color codes are the same.

Once you have identified the wires you wish to tap off for the rca connectors you must pad down the voltage level.  The speaker level is too high for conventional amplifier inputs.  You can make your own level reducer with a 10k ohm resistor in series with a 1k ohm resistor.  BUT: If the sub amp you are using has a built in HI/LO switch then, it has its own voltage reducer inside for this purpose.

Also, there are hi-lo adapters that provide all the hardware for this. You can find many of them at installer.com and just click on the hi-lo adapter hot link and search for your jimmy model.

IF: You are thinking to run the subs in parallel with the speakers already in the vehicle you should think twice about that as it may overload the amplifier.

The aux input is for ipod or mp3 player or portable anything with rca connections, I suppose.

Have I covered it all?   Let me know if you have further questions.
