Audio Systems: Kenwood CD receiver + Mitsubishi Triton, kenwood kdc, mitsubishi triton

Question
I have a 2008 Mitsubishi Triton GXL-R 3.2 diesel dual cab. I decided to change the sound system in it so that I could listen to my iPod. I purchased a Kenwood KDC-MP5043U. I have connected the unit to the car using ready made wiring harnesses (so not to damage original wiring in the vehicle).
Problem: the radio (AM/FM)side of the unit works fine, pumps out a great sound. When I plug my iPod in or put in a CD and the unit indicates that it is reading it and the display shows the unit going through the tracks or the iPod menu, but it fails to output any audio.  I have had the wiring double checked by an auto electrician and it's all fine. Have contacted Kenwood and they don't have a solution yet.  Is there something I am missing in the hooking up? Does Mitsubishi have some form of software in their computer that stops certain types of audio being connected? The original CD AM/FM receiver is connected to the dashboard computer, but there isn't any allowances for the Kenwood receiver to be connected this way. Could this have anything to do with it not working.

Answer
You didn't say, but I am suspecting you have an external power amp in the vehicle.  When the iPod is plugged in the remote power line goes off and turns off the power amp.  Jumper 12v to the remote line and see if that turns the amp on and gives you sound.  If you have a vom you can check for 12v at the remote turn-on line at the amplifier.

Maybe this will solve the problem.
