Audio Systems: Surround sound, sony surround sound system, open input

Question
I have a Sony surround sound system produced in 2006. System HT-7000DH. The receiver is model STR-K7000. My question is i just want to use the receiver, five speakers and subwoofer as a stereo for my home. No DVD player, no hookup to a TV, etc. I have everything wired up (speakers and subwoofer), turn the unit on and get nothing!! Just a buzzing sound! Does this type system need to be hooked to TV etc or what. Appreciate any help.

Answer
Should work just fine if you have it hooked up properly and if the unit is working as it should.  Here is the owners manual which I suggest you study.

Which inputs are you going to use?  You should select that input to see if the buzz goes away. Some receivers have a buzz or noise if you  are switched to an open input.

If the buzz or noise does not go away with the volume control set at minimum you have a power supply problem that needs service.  Cost will not be too much.  Maybe less than $100.

Best wishes,
