Question1994 Chevy Silverado.
All of the aftermarket CD players/ head units relocate to the center of the dash where the cassett player is. This is too far for my liking. I am satisfied with the current head unit and location.
I would like to either add a CD player to where the cassette now is and use the factory system or add an AUX socket to use my MP3 player with the factory stereo.
I'm not afraid to start cutting and splicing.
I would even consider a new aftermarket unit IF it could be used in the factory location of the dash above the AC controls.
Finally will any of the after 1994 units with CD "fit" in my dash? Or are they different type units without the box under the dash.

Answerthere is no aux
there is no factory cd that will fit in the factory location
and the only way t oinstall a radio is where the tape player is , the midle of the dash
now this is what you can do, under the dash by the acelerator pedal there is a metal box call CDM this is the amplifier and radio tuner
there is a cable from the unit in top of the ac and a cable from the tape player, if there are eq settings there are a lot more cables
if you pull the plug from the tape and cut it open, you will find about 9 plugs but there are 3 cables that are double shield this
are the audio cables
L+ r+ and ground
cut them now you have 6 cables, 3 comming from the tape player and 3 going to the CDM they are now the input
now you need a audio switcher with audio sensing , because you can not remove the tape player or cut it out
you need to add this in the midle cut the rca jacks or solder 4 rca jack to your radio and plug this in
