Audio Systems: Blowing amp, kicker solo baric, kicker solo baric l7

Question
Hi, I am currently running a 15" kicker solo baric L7, it has two positive and negative terminals on the sub and we have two separate wires coming from each set of pos and neg wires.  also I am running it to a 4000 watt mono block class D power acoustik gothic series OVN1-4000D.  I had it professionally installed yesterday with a 3 farad cap.  While i was driving today, the amp cut off, the lights are on but there is no sound from my sub.  The speaker was wired by me, but the system wires and amp was run professionally.  This happened before with another amp about three weeks ago.  Please help me and let me know what is wrong, if there is something wrong with the wiring of the sub or anything else.  Thank you and have a great day.

Answer
My experience is that either over powering the system by turning up the volume level too high or impedance mismatching are the most often causes of amp protection mode.

In your case, since you have great power, it is likely the impedance problem is the one to look at.  You may need to investigate the speaker loading.  I can not tell from your description how you have the kicker wired and if you have the dual voice coil or not.  It seems you have them in parallel which is only 2 ohm load.  If you have the impedance of the load to the amplifier too low that will cause the drop out that you  are experiencing.

You might try the coils in series for a higher impedance to see if that will improve the drop out problem.

Good Luck with it. Let me know how it goes.
