Audio Systems: radio reception, 1995 bmw 740il, bmw 740il

My 1995 BMW 740il has a problem with the radio not getting any reception.  It worked fine for years the all of a sudden
it would only work when it rained outside then it would work for a day or 2 until it dried out.  I've heard this same complaint from owners of the same year make and model.

Any advice would be great

It could be a poor or intermittent connection, but at 14 years old it has served its' purpose pretty well so. That said, repairing such an old unit would not be advised due to cost effectiveness.
If it is not an obvious antenna problem or antenna connection issue, I would replace the headunit and probably the antenna.
