Is the factory installed 6 cd changer in a 2000 mercury sable LS premium capable of playing mp3 format?

NO THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE   
but you can add a mp3 player using this and you can keep the cd changer

your regular cd changer can only play regular cds and some cd-rw
