Audio Systems: Public Address Speaker System, volt system, 8 ohm speakers

Question
We have a 70 volt system and have been replacing speakers recently. I would like an expert to confirm whether there is a difference between a "normal" speaker and a 70 volt speaker. We are using an A912 Tao amp (120 Watts) to power approx. 40 Atlas AP-15T speakers. Bad speakers are being replaced with a Radio Shack 30 Watt indoor/Outdoor Power horn. Their catalog number is 40-1439. The system now seems to be "maxed out." Could we be installing incorrect speakers? Pardon our ignorance, we are definitely not experts in this field.

Thanks,
Jeff

Answer
You purchased low impedance 8 ohm speakers when the TOA amplifier is a distributed 70V amp. The model number of the Atlas speakers that you replaced were 70volt speakers AP-15T. "T" meaning  transformer (70volt). I do not think you will find many 70volt speaker systems at Radio Shack. 70volt systems are specifically designed so that you can use many speakers driven by a single amplifier. You cannot do that with low impedance amplifiers and speakers without special matching devices.
