Audio Systems: Power Amplifer Consumption Idle/Pause, amplifier design, amplifier power

Question
Hi i have two questions about amplifier power consumption ,does an amplifier use the same current if you turn the gain controls up with no signal just as it would use at idle until the siganl is present? Question two if you pause the signal (like a CD player coming to the amplifier)would the amps current go back down to the Idle state or what?I was curious Thanks for your time.!!!!!

Answer
Generally speakers all amplifiers will draw more current when there is signal present. However all amplifiers are not created equal. The amount of power consumed depends on the amplifier design. For example, Class A, Class A/B, Class D, etc draw based on different power cycles as well as whether or not the power supply is switching or non switching.
