Audio Systems: tape to pc recording, audio cleaning lab, correct cables

QUESTION: I know I am going to appear completely ignorant, but I am just that! I hope you can bear with me. I want to record my cassettes on to my pc as .mp3 files.  I bought the audio cleaning lab software, and (I believe) the correct cables, BUT it seems my double tape deck does not have rca output jacks, only ones labelled "aux" which I think must be input. It does have a headphone socket which I tried to use but no sound registered on the software when I connected to my pc line-in with that. Do I need to buy a whole new tape deck with the right sockets or is it possible to buy something else that will help?

ANSWER: Aux is an input not an output. I'm assuming the aux is on the front of the device.  Did you check the back of the device?  There has to be a way for this device to output the sound.

QUESTION: Thank you for your speedy response but no, honest guvnor, the aux sockets are on the back of the machine, the only other plug is the phones socket at the front.  The speakers are wired in. It is a Panasonic SA-AK410.

Yep you need a new tape deck.  you can probably find someone to pay you to get rid of theirs for them.  I would try craigslist or a pawnshop.  Don't go crazy on paying for one, no matter what it's not going to sound like CD quality, depending on the filters and plugins your program has you can do some cleaning up of the audio.
