Audio Systems: did you ever figure out turntable -> Bose?, riaa phono, denon turntable

Question
i am experiencing the same problem and wondering if you figured out how to make this work?

i sent my dad some OLD albums and then found out he didn't have a turntable.  so, i sent him my Denon turntable to connect to his Bose Wave - and he has experienced the same very low volume you explained.

i also went to radio shack asking for help, but no one seemed to know what to do.

here's hoping you have good news for me!

merry xmas,

Answer
As a Bose pro dealer for years I am quite familiar with their policies. If you were to ask them, they'd tell you, the Wave radio is not intended to be used for vinly reproduction. I explained how you would correctly convert to the RIAA format so that it would not distort. The Wave radio does not have sufficient pre-amplification to get very loud. A Radio Shack pre-amplifier is rated to deliver an output of a given voltage just as the Wave radio has a spec for the input. As I originally said you must have an adequate voltage as is required by the Wave radio in order to get enough volume. There are pre-amplifiers made that will give you adequate volume. The Gemini PA 7000 for example. This is a semi pro product. Turntables are manufactured in small quantity and there are few manufacturers that make pre-amps with RIAA (phono input), therefore you are left in a hobbyists world. If you have the time and patience then you can find a way to do it. I would instead suggest that you search Ebay for a used compact system that has a turntable built in. You will probably save yourself a lot grief and money.
