Audio Systems: music, power supply failures, amplifier section

Question
i have a sony stereo receiver STR-SE391 audio/video control center. the protecter keeps flashing and im getting no sound

Answer
Try a hard reset.  Do this by unplugging the power cord for 30 minutes; then power it up again and see if it clears.

If the reset does not help it means the set has gone into protection mode.  This is caused when there is too much current being drawn through the power supply.  The problem can be at the power supply itself, the audio amplifier section, the ripple filter section or just about anywhere but power supply failures are the most common.

It can also be caused by external factors such as a shorted speaker line.  You can check this by removing all the speaker connections at the back and connect them up one at a time.

In the worst case you will need to have it looked at by a knowledgeable technician who can diagnose the problem with measurements.

I doubt if the repair costs will be so much.  Maybe $50 or so.

Does this help?  Questions? Let me know more.
