Audio Systems: speakers and sizes, speaker holes, budget area

Question
i have a 1996 Lincoln Towncar and i want to change my speakers both front and back but i have the stock regular am/fm radio. what are my speaker sizes?? and what watts should i get to replace my speakers. what is the best solution

Answer
There are many - it depends on what sized are permitted in the speaker cavities of the car and how much money you want to spend.

I suggest you go first to

www.crutchfield.com

and plow through the "outfit my car" options which will lead you to the speakers that will actually fit inside the mounting spaces of your car.

Secondly, go to BestBuy or CircuitCity or some such place that has the car speakers you can consider and see if they have them on their test panel so you can listen to them.

Thirdly, once you have an idea of which speakers will fit and sound good and are in your budget area, check the power ratings to see if you might want to upgrade or add an external power amp so you can drive your new speakers to full audio dynamic range.

This is a fine automobile and you deserve to have equal quality sound coming out of the speaker system.

Best wishes,
C

PS: Crutchfield is the most uptodate on exactly what spaces and mounting configurations are for each automobile model in the USA.  Also, there is a place at www.installer.com which will sell brackets and spacers and fittings in case you want to mount non-standard speaker sizes in the speaker holes of your vehicle.
