Audio Systems: volume control, vector research, receiver amplifier

Hi, i have an older Vector Research Analog Receiver/Amplifier which my DVR and dvd/vhs go through. When i had cable i was able to control the volume of the unit using the TV Remote? The volume control would go as high as the volume knob was turned on the amp. With the new DVR and Tv i can no longer do this? What am i missing?

Answer
The audio output of the older tv was controlled by the remote. On the new tv it is not.

However, some tvs, not all, have the option of setting the audio out either way - fixed level or variable.  You must go into the on-screen-menu to make that change if it is supported.
