Audio Systems: pa snake, sonic maximizer, amp rack

Question
ROBERT, I RUN SOUND FOR MY SON'S BAND AND I WAS WONDERING IF YOU CAN HELP ME OUT. I'D LIKE TO RUN A PA SNAKE ABOUT 50FT. LONG. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO HOOK THIS UP. WE HAVE TWO JBL DUAL 15 TOWERS, NO SUBS. WE USE 24 CHANNEL MIXER.  ALL AMPS, POWER STRIP AND SONIC MAXIMISER ARE IN A HARD CASE ON WHEELS. I KNOW HOW THE MICS WOULD HOOK UP,BUT WHAT ABOUT SPEAKERS. DO I RUN LONG SPEAKERS CABLES. AND IF WE DO GET SUBS, HOW WOULD I HOOK THEM UP. THANKS,  RAY

Answer
You don't want to have a mike snake carrying amplifier outputs. You should use multiple snakes. 1 mike snake with line level foldback for monitors & mics.

Depending on how you set up your speakers you should have a snake running from the amp rack to each speaker cluster. If the amp rack is not near the mixing board then you will need another snake that carries the main outs from your mixing board to the processing in.

Be careful with a sonic maximizer it could create unwanted feedback problems if it's not set up right. An equalizer/feedback suppressor and limiter compressor is a more professional way to go. The limiter/compressor may also have an expander and gate built in which essentially is what a sonic maximizer is only more precise. There are all in one DSP's that do it all.
