Audio Systems: stuck cd disc, jaguar x type, dash unit

Question
I have been advised by a car electonics dealer that I have to acertain if my factory fitted radio/cd player is the fibre optic version before he can attempt to repair it. The car is an x type 2002 and there is no indication in any of the manuals supplied as to what version my car is. I am the second owner of the car from new.

Answer
Jaguar?

A stuck cd can be due to mechanical lock up or friction. It can also be due to not getting commends from the controller.

Sometimes a reset will release the disc.  If there is a reset procedure in your manual try that. If not, you must somehow remove all power from the audio system so that all internal memories may be released.  When power is reapplied the internal proms will restore to factory preset programs.  If the controller circuitry is corrupted, the reset will correct for it.

If it is a mechanical thing; rubbing, friction, burned out motor, etc. it requires troubleshooting.

The way to tell if you have a fiber optic unit is to look at the input connections to the changer. If it is an in-dash unit you can be assured it is not fiber connected as it is an integral system with direct connections by hardware, most certainly. If the changer is in the trunk or under the seat you can tell by checking the cable that comes in from the head unit; it will be a fiber line and connect into a fiber port on the changer box.

See this posting which indicates that your unit does have the trunk mounted fiber connected equipment.
