Audio Systems: telephone voice through a 31 band eq ?, shure sm 58, graphic equalizer

Question
Hi there, im wondering if its possible to get a 'telephone voice' effect on vocals using a 31 band EQ and if so how?. Ive seen a couple of bands do this live this year and they have seperate mikes for that fuzzy vocal effect. My equipment is Mackie DFX 12 mixer desk, Mackie SRM 350 speakers and Behringer ultragraph pro 31 band EQ's and Shure SM 58 mikes

Answer
The correct processing device to do this is a notch filter. It is closer to a parametric filter that a graphic equalizer. A graphic equalizer generally has only 12 db of cut and boost. The correct filter will notch out a band only in the voice range literally reducing all other frequencies to where they are inaudible.

Using the Graphic you may get close if you boost frequencies above 500hz to 2 or 3,000 hz depending on the articulation you want. All other frequencies must be cut to a minimum.
