Audio Systems: Toyota VCR, fuse boxes, toyota vehicles

Question
Hi, my VCR does not have any power.  I have checked all of the fuses and they are good.  I took the VCR out and also replaced the fuse in the VCR, but still no power.  Do you know why I can't get power to the VCR unit?

Answer
Have you checked the fuses in the car?  There are two fuse boxes; one in the engine compartment under the hood near unto the battery and another inside under the dash near the steering column area.

If you have a vom (voltmeter - you can buy them at Home Depot or Walmart for under $10) you can chase down the 12v line and find out where the voltage is lost. Or, you can run another wire from the battery - but if you do make sure it is properly fused - or from the ignition, depending on which 12v you are missing.

Most auto vcrs have two 12v lines; one is constant and the other is from the ignition for turn-on.

Tell me more about the make/model of the car etc. if you need more information so I can look up the specifics of your installation.

I think most VCRs used in Toyota vehicles are made by Matsushita/Panasonic.  You can look through www.fixer.com and see if you can find a model similar to yours.

Let me know how I can help further once you have read my reply above.
