Audio Systems: MP3 CDs Compatibility, stock stereo, dodge dealer

Question
Will 2006 Dodge Charger stock stereo play MP3 CDs?it doesn't is there a way I can make it where it does? Or is there, perhaps, some other type of CD(s) that can hold a lot of songs like that? And lastly where would I be able to buy/get an MP3 (or similar CD)?

Answer
You will have to check the manual on your Charger.  There are so many different head units used by auto manufacturers; without knowing exactly which head unit I cannot give you an answer.  A Dodge dealer should be able to look at your unit and know which "stock" head unit your vehicle is using and give you the information you need.

My guess is that it does not play MP3 encoded cds.  Newer ones do, but in 2006 not so many of them did.

Here is my recommendation:

ONE:  Go to www.crutchfield.com
TWO:  Click on the hotlink called GPS & Car Accessories.
THREE:  Click on "outfit my car"
FOUR: Go down through the choices and look for an MP3 adapter for your model car.

Look for an adaptor that will allow you to connect an iPod or MP3 player into the car radio system.

The virtue of an mp3 input on your car radio is you can carry the mp3 player with you and all its music and use it privately as well as in the car.

Another site that has such adaptors that you can check out is:

www.installer.com

Hope this helps you get music going in your car.

PS: I checked a few 06 Chargers on eBay and some of them have MP3 play feature, some don't, so it will depend on which model in-dash unit you have.  I think Chrysler used about 5 different ones that year.
