Audio Systems: speakers/ audio systems, wet climate, marine speakers

Question
Hey. I have this crazy idea to put 2 speakers in the back fenders of my fourwheeler (like by were you put your feet).
I was wondering if you had any recomendations about the type of speakers I should use and the type of audio system. I was wanting an audio system that can play FM radio and an Ipod but it has to be small enough to fit under my fourwheeler. And for the speakers they can only be 6x8in(possibly bigger or smaller but not much). I was wondering if you could recommend any  cheep/loud systems that can put under there, and possibly something durable so if i get in water or mud it doesnt ruin it or if there is any type of casing--same goes with the speakers.

Answer
Best shopping place for you is www.crutchfield.com where you can find all kinds of mobile equipment.

Without knowing more about your budget, your application and the 4 wheeler you are using (noise from the engine and works) and places you are going to be using it (mountain climbing, desert racing, etc.) it will be hard for me to pin down your needs.

If you are in a wet climate you will need speakers that can continue service in mud, rain, wet and down right miserable environment.

Maybe some boat/marine speakers would be good.  Look here:

and here:

for some ideas.

You will need enough 12v power to keep the amplifier going, too.

If you can give me the make and model/year of your 4 wheeler that will help me get the picture of what you are trying to do; with the electrical system specifications we can work out how much power you can get without having to add another alternator or bigger battery, etc., etc.

Hope this gives starting points.

PS: Here is a marine/off-road vehicle system which includes amp, speakers and adaptors for iPod, etc.  that may be of interest to you:
