Audio Systems: adding an amplifer, quality sound reinforcement, cerwin vega speakers

I have a pair of Cerwin Vega D9's and Boise 305's being powered by an Onkyo TX8511 receiver,would adding an amplifier improve speaker performance?

Pairing those speakers with a reciever was never the intent of the speaker manufacturers. Even though they are not the highest quality sound reinforcement speakers, that was their intended design, especially the Cerwin Vega. I'm not saying that you can't power it with the reciever, I'm just pointing out that there is a better way and yes you are missing components.

The hookup would use 2 amplifers a mixer or preamplifer an electronic crossover and the speakers that you have. The receiver could act as one amplfier for the Cerwin Vega speakers
