Audio Systems: TV Problem, model kv, statistical probability

Question
My Sony TV, model KV-27S15, manufactured in 1995, connected to a Dish TV receiver, turns on fine with good picture and sound but after about 15 or 20 minutes it seems to lose the station and the screen goes dark and the sound goes to static.  Any idea on what the cause may be?  Also, is this something that perhaps I could fix without spending a lot or do I need an expert repairman?  Thanks.

Answer
ONE:  You would need a technician who can do testing inside the set to determine the cause. There are many possibilities, but it sounds expensive relative to the worth of the set.

TWO:  Any set of this size that is over 3 or 4 years of age would be, by most experts, not a good candidate for repair.  This set is beyond its expected life span.  27 inch sets are designed for about a 7 to 8 year life.  If you were to repair it the statistical probability is you would have another breakdown soon thereafter.

AFTER THOUGHT:  To isolate the problem a little further, however, switch the set over to a/v input and try playing just a dvd or the vcr.  Does it work okey in the a/v mode?  If so, you could use a vcr as the front end tuner and see how that goes.

Let me know more if you need.
