Audio Systems: installing cd player in boat, power amplifier, power connections

Question
Hi,
I am having the same problem that someone else had described on this site with no final answer by the individual that was helping him.  Anyway I removed the old tape player on my boat, hooked up the new one with what I found to be the correct wiring....and as the cd player will come on there is no sound coming out of the speakers.  The cd player is picking up the radio as it is reading on the eq screen. Please help!!

Answer
Well, contrary to your comment that it is wired up right, I must say the symptom you give is nearly always it is NOT wired right.  Usually, when installing a new head unit you must have a wiring harness to match the wiring of the new unit to the wiring of the boat.

You can avoid a wiring harness if you can trace out the wires to each speaker, then take the wiring diagram of the new head unit (it comes with the owners manual) and match the wires; right front to right front and so on.

Of course, on the other hand, if you really did wire it up right, my apologies for challenging you, then the unit could be defective and needs to be replaced by the retailer where you made the purchase.

And, one other possibility, if there is a power amplifier between the head unit and the speakers you must make sure the power connections are made to the amp and the audio outputs from head to amp are complete, etc.

So, check it out and let me know if you need more ideas.
