Audio Systems: car audio, radio hack, amp load

Question
i have hooked up a lot of car stereos and i am havin a hard time with mine. I have everything hooked up...the power wire the ground and remote but i cant the amp to turn on. It turned on for a second then went right back off. all the fuses are good but i dont have an amp tester to see if my amp is gettn power.  what do i do?

Answer
A simple meter from Radio $hack ($15) can be used to test the REM for power when the amp is supposed to be on. Avoid using a test light as the REM circuit from the HU cannot tolerate much more than 0.5 amp load.

An alternative...

Run a fused (1 amp, 14 AWG) wire from a fuse in the fuse panel that only has power when the car is on to a switch. Then from the other side of the switch run the same sized wire to the REM (remote) connection on the amp. This allows for full control and you never have to worry about forgetting to turn off the amp. The switch is so you can turn off the amp at will so as not to give grandma a heart attack in the car.

Use a fuse tap that you can get from most any autoparts store.
