Audio Systems: cd deck, fuse panel, internal circuitry

Question
I WAS RE INSTALLING MY SYSTEM WHEN MY REMOTE, POWER, AND GROUND WIRES TOUCHED WHILE IN THE AMP. THE SPARKED A LITTLE BIT. NOW MY DECK AND AMP WONT COME ON AT ALL. I CHECKED THE FUSES ON MY AMP, BATTERY, AND DECK, AND THEY WERE ALL GOOD. WHAT CAN BE WRONG WITH MY DECK. IT WONT COME ON AT ALL

Answer
You may have smoked the internal circuitry of the deck. New deck or blown fuse in fuse panel.

This is why the #1 rule is in place - Disconnect ONE terminal from the battery when wiring anything in the car. Make the battery connection the LAST connection made.

Look at the radio fuse in the fuse panel it may have blown.

An alternative to the REM wiring.

Run a fused (1 amp, 14 AWG) wire from a fuse in the fuse panel that only has power when the car is on to a switch. Then from the other side of the switch run the same sized wire to the REM (remote) connection on the amp. This allows for full control and you never have to worry about forgetting to turn off the amp. The switch is so you can turn off the amp at will so as not to give grandma a heart attack in the car.

Use a fuse tap that you can get from most any autoparts store.
