Audio Systems: Audio Question, ac voltmeter, watt rms

Question
Hi Scott, i bought a PPI 4400 amp, but i don't know how much power should my subwoofers have in order for them not to keep getting messed up.  Which ones do you suggest that i go with?  Appreciate your answer, thanks.

Answer
4-channels amps are not the ideal amp for subs, but will work.

That amp is 200 Watt RMS X 2 @ 4 ohms bridged so two 200 watt RMS subs @ 4 ohm per each bridged channel will do the trick.

Look for subs with a 91dB sensitivity or higher rating.

Adjust the gain and all will be well.

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp.

Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=6d26c621

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.

If you don't have Excel, use this link http://www.box.net/shared/nkkw1dhk4g
