Audio Systems: sub and amp match, kicker cvr, ohm load

Question
I got 3 12" kicker cvr dual coil each one is 400 rms I got them in a 1.64 cft box each one, and I got a power acoustik 2200x2 amp that delivered 370 rms per channel at 4ohm , 450 rms at 2ohm and briged 900 rms Did you think I got the right amp? cause I think is too loud for a 3 12" kicker cvr

Answer
Well, any amplifier of any power rating can connect to a speaker of any kind so long as the impedance of the speaker is higher than the rating of the amplifier.

If your amp is safe with a 2 ohm load, then so long as the speaker load is 2 ohms or greater you will be all right.

If the power is not enough you will not be able to drive the speakers to their full loudness, that is all.

If the power is much greater than the speakers can handle then you will have to watch the volume control so you don't overpower them and burn them out.

It is that simple.

Now, the sound level output is a function of the power amplifier, yes, but it is very greatly influenced by the sensitivity of the the speakers.  Do you know what it is?  A rating of 96 db would be very good.

Lastly, I hope you have the speakers connected for the right impedance loading on your amp.  Impedance matching and sensitivity are the key issues for you on this one.

Hope this will guide you.
