Audio Systems: 1999 Buick Lesabre Rejecting CD from CD Player, new car smell, cotton swab

Question
QUESTION: My 99 Lesabre is rejecting all CDs that I am inserting into it. It previously read E20 which is the disc is upside down, there is too much moisture in the air, or the disc is scratched. Now I checked the disc and it is not scratched or upside down. Is there anything that I can do to fix it without having to get it fixed professionally?

ANSWER: If you can get to the inside, try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and aclohol.  Other than that there is little that can be done without replacing parts or making adjustments with test equipment.

QUESTION: what about cleaning discs are there such things that will do something like that?

Answer
Cleaning discs basically only clean off any loose dust.  It is my experience that the lens gets a dirt "film" over it that a cleaning disc doesn't touch.  This can be seen as a dull film on the lens itself.  The cause of this can be smoke from cigarettes or even the eminations from the fabric of a vehicle (the so called "new car smell") as well.  I would try to clean the lens first.  You won't make things any worse for trying.
