Audio Systems: amp/w/subwoofer, watts rms, mono amp

Question
just purchased a Cuspid am-4310 amp w/2 8" subwoofers boomboxes,I would like to install it with my factory radio,(2001 Pont.Grand prix.)I would like to use my existing speakers, and put subs in the trunk. It is a 4 channel amp,do I bridge them, not sure??

Answer
Typically a 4-channel amp is used for the four speakers (two front, two rear). Subs work best on a 2-channel or mono amp.

You also need to match the RMS watts between the two (amp and sub) per channel at the right impedance (ohm) load for best performance.

If the watts RMS isn't listed, stay away from the product. Judging by the size of the amp, the 400 watts X 4 stated can't even be real.
This is an indication the actual power isn't anywhere near what it's supposed to be and the manufacturer is exaggerating the specs. They do this by listing peak or max power which isn't anything close to real useable power. Peak or max watts is what the equipment can handle\push for a split second before failure. Nobody sets there system up like this. RMS (Root Mean Square) is the continuous power that's produced. If I had to guess, that amp might be 70 watts RMS X 4.

If you really want to use this system, consult the manual that should have came with it or use the only info I found on it - http://www.caraudiosupply.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=C&Pro...

The first picture of the manual shows how to wire bridged in the second diagram down just below the words "Fully Bridgeable amp" or "B. Bridged wiring (2 Bridged wiring)" on the manual itself in the pic.

Use the high-level inputs on the amp and tap off of the rear speaker wires.

If you're looking for a good quality bass system or even a so-so system, you won't find it with that equipment.
