Audio Systems: Simple Quick Question Big Pain in the A**, dual voice coil, watts rms

Question
I have a 1500 peak watt Alpine type r 12" sub. I want to put it in a 1 sub box i just bought. How do i wire the sub to the inside of the box? What do i need what kind of speaker wire? And part 2 is i have a crappy 5oo watt lanzair amp but im getting rid of it and getting a new amp. What kind of amp should i get for the sub so that it bumps clearly, properly and has the right amount of wattage it's suppose to have? Thanks for the help.

Answer
First off, ignore peak values of subs or amps. These are arbitrary numbers that have no real value. The RMS wattage is what to look for as this is real power.

That sub is 500 watts RMS with 4 ohm DVC(dual voice coil).

Look for a CEA-2006 compliant mono amp that's 500 watts RMS @ 2 ohm.

Be sure to set the gain as well.

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp to prevent clipping (bad).

Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=6d26c621

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.
