Audio Systems: Aiwa NSX 3500 Disk Drive Motor, cotton swab, laser lens

Question
I can't get the CD to spin.  The laser/lens tries to read the CD, adjusts in and out, but the CD is not spinning.  Could this be the disk drive motor?  This is an older unit, is it worth the repair costs or is this something I can fix through a local radio shack or electronics store?
Thanks

Answer
The problem is not likely the motor.  Try cleaning the lens with a cotton swab and alcohol.  If the unit does not recognize that a disc is present, it will not spin.  These motors are available generically, but are not easy to replace as the CD table height is critical to proper functioning.  The opttics assembly is the most probable failure part and is also available for $25-$35.
