Audio Systems: 1994 Ford Explorer XLT, ford explorer xlt, infinity reference 6812cf

Question
QUESTION: Hey whats up? I have a JVC Arsenal Series KD-AR480 head-unit and 4 Infinity Reference 6812cf speakers that I would like to install in my 1994 Ford Explorer XLT. But I dont know what I have to do. I have an 600w 4 channal amp to run all the speakers. I tried to hook up the CD Player and run the stock speakers but no sound comes out. I've also heard that there's a factory amp, but I dont know where it is. If you could run down what I have to do that be awesome. Thanks.

ANSWER: You need to know if the truck has a JBL audio system, premium audio system or standard audio system.

Depending on what you have depends on the instructions.

QUESTION: It has a standard audio system. Stock ford speakers, stock tape deck.

Answer
Then you shouldn't have a factory amp.

Connect the head unit to the 4-channel amp using RCA cables. Wire each speaker to each channel of the amp.

Be sure to set the gain right on the amp and be sure the RMS power output of the amp doesn't exceed the RMS power handling of the speakers.

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp.

Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=6d26c621

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.
