Audio Systems: fitting sub in astra mk4, astra mk4, vauxhall astra

Question
ok what would be the easiest way to install my 12 inch mutant sub and amp system into my vauxhall astra mk4? i had the same system in my old astra mk2 and that was basically easy enough to fit myself, but im stumped on this new one!.....someone told me you have to remove the whole front panel on the car to be able to get at the stereo well enough, but is that true?.....and plus whats the best way to get the power cable from the battery to inside the car?

Answer
Sorry, I am not familiar with the vauxhall cars, but I can tell you that you often must be very creative in figuring out how the various panels come apart.

Most Vauxhalls are built by GM and if the radio units are from their suppliers the removal of the unit from the dash requires a special tool that inserts down the sides of the radio unit so as to release a couple of clips that will allow the unit to slide out of its mounting sleeve.  There may be a bezel around the unit that comes off and then you would see enough space on the sides of the unit for the removal tool to slide down and release the spring clips that are holding it in.  Surely there are online shops that have these removal tools available for order.  Some of them can be made from a coathanger or plastic milk bottle - if you know what it looks like.

Take a look at:

or other such places that you can google for.

As to the wire from the battery, you will have to be creative.  Find an opening such as the steering column which will allow a wire to be pushed through the rubber grommet area.  I don't recommend you make your own hole through the firewall unless you know how to seal it perfectly.  You don't want to get asphixiated from fumes leaking into the cabin, do you?

Hope this helps some.  Let me know if you need more.
