Audio Systems: size of speaker to use, watts rms, maximum sound quality

Question
i have an 87 suburban i am trying to achieve maximum sound quality in my stereo.i am trying to find out what kind of speaker to use in the dash of my truck that can handle 100 watts rms per speaker.is there such a thing and where would i be able to buy them? any suggestions?

Answer
My suggestion is to go to www.crutchfield.com and go through their "outfit my car".

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/autoinfo/autoinfo.asp?lp=%2fapp%2fCar%2fMyCar...

Just plug in the numbers for your automobile and they will lead you to the range of speakers that will fit your stock openings.  They have the best database around.  Once you know the dimensions that will fit the hole/openings you can go to any speaker system you want.  You don't have to purchase the speakers from crutchfield, but if you do they will send wiring information and installation instructions.

If you want to mount different speaker sizes you can go smaller with adapter rings at www.installer.com and click on "speaker stuff".

Most better grade speakers will handle 100w okey.  (BTW: There is no such thing as rms power.  Why?  Because rms voltage times rms current gives average power.  It is a text book definition.  RMS power has been picked up by marketing people who don't know the difference and have perpetuated this into popular acceptance, but it is wrong.)

Best wishes,
