Audio Systems: 1996 Honda Accord Radio Problem, prefect match, stock radio

Question
QUESTION: My 1996 Honda Accord Radio is suffering from intermittent working of
sound, display (sometimes off or scrambled), cassette player (only will work
when sound is on and display is working correctly). Sometimes when radio
power is on, I will hit seek button, hear beep, but then radio never tunes to a
station, almost like it can't pick one up.  I have checked #10 and #18 fuses
and they are fine.  Is there anything else I can try to fix the problem myself?
Thanks!

ANSWER: Unfortunately the only cure is a replacement, especially with that many problems. A direct replacement is recommended as an aftermarket may require a special harness to keep the stock radio along with the new radio. Some Honda's integrate the keyless entry, courtesy lights, etc. to the stock radio and not using the right harness will disable those features. The stock radio is stuffed into the dash out of the way (I know it sounds crazy...).

You may find a replacement at a salvage yard.

If you decide to go with an aftermarket, you can usually get all the right hardware from here http://www.metraonline.com

QUESTION: Thanks so much for your quick answer!  Just to clarify- a replacement means
a working radio from an otherwise junker 1996 Honda Accord, and an
aftermarket means a car radio from another manufacturer (like if I decided to
upgrade to a cd player!  Do cars even come with cassettes anymore? ha ha)??
Do certain model years have the integrated radio wiring, or is that on a car-
by-car basis? Is that something a dealer could tell me if I call them with my
VIN?  Many thanks, you are a lifesaver! Kelsey

Answer
"a replacement means a working radio from an otherwise junker 1996 Honda Accord, and an aftermarket means a car radio from another manufacturer" - yes

A prefect match can be a task for a direct replacement as certain features were available. You can try a dealer, won't hurt.
