Audio Systems: Panasonic Receiver - Dead, static electric shock, panasonic sa he100

Question
Dear Dan:
I have a Panasonic SA HE100 receiver that's worked very well for the three years I've owned it.  The other night when I turned off the received I received a static electric shock and the receiver instantly went dark.  I tried replacing the two fuses that are near the power source panel and it still isn't working.  Any thoughts on next steps for trouble shooting the problem?
Many thanks, JZ

Answer
The fact that you got shocked is a bit disturbing.  I have one of these with a tuner problem. These are good units and are worth repairing.  I would check your wiring for that circuit as you should never get a shock from these units.  Is it possible that the shock was static electricity?  Does the unit attempt to startup at all?  Is the standby light on?  Do you hear a click when you press the on button?
