Audio Systems: addition to original question, chevy blazer, player input

Question
I'm trying to hard wire my ipod to my factory stereo/cd player in my '99 chevy blazer. It also has a factory tape player sitting on top of the transmission hump. I was wonder if there was a way to use the tape player input for the ipod(i dont have any tapes) or if you know a better way to wire in the ipod that would help to. Also would i have to hook something up to charge it? I also have controls on the steering wheel, would these be affected?

if you unplug the slave tape from behind the radio  you can plug this ipod interface into the radio, and use all the radio controls for the ipod  radio needs to have a source button or cd/aux
