Audio Systems: Pioneer kpx 600 auto stereo, amp fuse, david answer

Question
QUESTION: Dan,
I'm sure this is an easy answer for you. I've found my old car stereo that I bought in the early 80s and am installing it in an old car. The fuse is missing and I don't know what is the correct Amp to use. Can you help? I don't want to ruin it after all these years. Thanks!
david

ANSWER: Start with a 1 amp fuse.  There may be a mark on the label that indicates the correct size.  If the 1 amp blows, try going up by 1/2 amp.  There is usually a fairly high startup current that may blow a smaller one.  I don't have any service info to indicate the correct size.

QUESTION: Dan,
That's great, Thanks!
Second question. The Pioneer kpx 600 uses a Pioneer GM-40 amp. Now that I
have power, I find that there is no output to the right speaker. While the left
side of the amp warms up, the right side does not. Since the radio uses a
proprietary connection to the amp, the radio cannot be used without it; the
speaker wires come out of the amp. Is this repairable? What suggestions do
you have? Advice on repair costs? Who could repair it?
Thanks!
david

Answer
The main question to answer is basically:  is the amp cool on one side because the amp is not working or because the radio portion is not telling the amp to work?  You will need to do some tracing to find out which.  This can not be done remotely though.
