Audio Systems: installation, speaker levels, intelligent answer

Question
A friend  of mine has a 95 mustang gt with  the mach 1 system in it he replaced the head unit and was told they bypassed the amps, said the stereo would blow the amps? That don't sound right at all, does it? how would he get the amps back on? (car toys is where he had it installed)

Answer
I would have to know more in order to give an intelligent answer.  Do you know the exact make and model of the new head unit?  And I would need to know the existing amps that are in the car - if you can find out.  THere are many variations of the mach 1 system.

IF:  The new unit does not have line out and if the present amps donot have speaker level in then the story from the dealer would be correct.  BUT: If a hi-lo adapter were used it could bring the speaker levels down to the amp level and everything would be fine.

It seems to be an interface related problem.  SO, let me know more and I can get you a more reliable answer.
