Audio Systems: delco-bose security lockout, corvette dealer, cassette works

Question
I have a 1990 corvette with factory delco-bose cd.The radio and cassette works and only one speaker(driverside)Iknow the battery was replaced just before Ipurchased the vehical.would I need to reactivate the security lockout if so how do I do it? Thanks for any input

Answer
I don't think the lockout is causing trouble.  The security lockout works this way: If the power is removed from the head unit - such as when the battery is disconnected or a thief takes the unit out of the car - it requires a special code that must be entered to initiate the head unit and the power amps.  The code is given to the new owner when purchased new from a corvette dealer.

So, if the lockout was the problem you would have no audio or radio performance whatsoever.

Since you are getting audio from one channel it means either you have bad speakers (or wiring) in the other locations OR a defective amplifier that is not working properly.  In fact, some Bose units have the each power amplifier mounted in the speaker basket; part of the assembly within the basket of the speaker unit.  So, it is possible, in your case, if that happens to be the system implementation in your model, that a power line is out or that three of the amps are out.

You can check by getting at any one of the speakers which you can visually see the unit.  It is obvious to the eye if there is an amplifier built into the loudspeaker mechanism. If that is not the case, then there is a power amp mounted somewhere - it feeding the several speakers.

You can see the various amplifiers used in Corvettes at:

There are some hotlinks on that site that may take you to other  interesting bits of information.

So, you have some investigation to do; then bet back to me with further questions if need be.
