Audio Systems: JVC not playing any CD from 2 hours ago!, invisible particles, laser diode

Question
Dear Cleggsan,
I have a problem and appreciate you could help.
I have this JVC which recently started not playing some CD's. I  bought a lens cleaner and as soon I inserted it into the machine it was rejected and the machine stopped playing any CD and even rejecting them saying "NO CD". Not it doesn't play any CD.

This is a relatively high-end JVC and although 7 years old I've been using it very lightly. It is a 3 CD stackable model MY-D761T "COMPACT COMPONENTS SYSTEM".

I have to say that once when it was still on warranty I took it to the store and they said that the problem was dirty lens.

Thanx a lot for your time,

Max

Answer
Best way to clean the lens is as follows:

Locate the lens - you may have to remove a cover in this type of player.  Then, with a cotton q-tip flick it over the surface of the lens a few times.  This will dislodge the microscopic, invisible particles that may be stuck to the surface.  Do NOT use any chemicals or alcohol type stuff.

Then, unplug the power cord for 1/2 hour.  Doing so will reset the internal electronics.

If this does not bring it back to life you must have it repaired or replaced.  The problem is most assuredly a weak laser diode or bad alignment.  And, if so, the repair expense will be more than the price of a new player.  A player this old is many, many generations out of date and you should replace it rather than sink money into it.

You can purchase a separate cd player for $9.95 and up; then plug it into the aux input on the JVC system.  That is what I recommend.

Hope this helps.
