Audio Systems: multi-speaker setup, ceiling speakers, home theater system

Question
I moved into a house that has 6 sets of ceiling speakers (100 watts 8 ohms) in various rooms, with volume control in each room.  The wires all lead to a "media room" where they are connected to a speaker switcher.  The media room also has a 5.1 home theater system.  I would like to attach the speaker switcher and the 5.1 speakers to one receiver.  Can I do that?  Any suggestions for a receiver?  Thanks

Answer
Not recommended. Don't burden your receiver with a distributed speaker system. Pick up an amplifier (250W 300W will be fine) connect the input to either a pre amp out or record out of the receiver. That way when you control the volume of the 5.1 system it won't effect the distributed speakers. Hook the output to the speakers switch. If you know that the volume controls are impedance matching then you don't even need the speakers switch.
