Audio Systems: Sylvania 42 Plamsa Flat TV - model #6842PEM, local tv channels, hd signals

Question
How do I get local tv channels to work on this tv.  The remote has no tv buttons, the surround sound system has to tv info.  Nothing in the owners manual about tv...help me please.  I don't have cable, I got the DVD/VCR unit to work with the TV.

Answer
This model is not a receiver.  It is a monitor.  Therefore, it has no tv tuner.  It is not HD, but ED.  It can receive HD signals but will display the picture in Enhanced Definition grade which is a little less picture quality than full HD.

Nonetheless, it seems to be a fine set.  I have seen one in the store but have no personal experience with it.

To receive tv signals you must have a tuner/vcr or something that will receive the tv signal from the antenna and output it to the monitor component or composite video and audio inputs.

My suggestion for you is to use the vcr portion of your DVD/VCR unit to receive the signal; then take the outputs from there to the Sylvania monitor.

If you want to receive the HD signals from your local broadcast stations via the antenna you must purchase a HD tuner/receiver.

Hope this helps.
